Community Empowerment & Economic Justice

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights is committed to empower communities of color and low-income by increasing economic opportunities that will help overcome barriers to advancement and enable individuals to be in control of their livelihoods. We know that a strong economy fuels a community and, without it, the disparities that result can last for generations. Utilizing a multi-pronged approach, we work to advance economic justice and civil rights through our signature direct services program, Legal Services for Entrepreneurs (LSE), which works with entrepreneurs who are starting or have existing business. Informed by the challenges and/or obstacles they encounter, we advocate for policies that will favorably impact the diverse local economy. We also partner with community organizations in economically distressed areas throughout the Bay Area in their efforts to sustain and improve the resiliency of small businesses so their communities can flourish.
