Asylum Program
Since 1983, LCCR's Asylum Program has provided representation to indigent refugees fleeing persecution. The Asylum Program screens potential clients, recruits pro bono lawyers and interpreters, and offers comprehensive training on asylum law and legal procedure as well as support and consultation to volunteers. Our program is recognized as a national model for programs delivering free legal services to low-income asylum-seekers. Most recently, the Asylum Program has shared its expertise with the National Center for Refugee & Immigrant Children and the Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Project.
In 2007, the program provided two comprehensive trainings on asylum law and procedure for over 100 volunteers. LCCR also hosted "brown bag workshops" on asylum law and human rights issues, including workshops on gender-based violence, evidentiary issues, immigration appeals, and advice from an expert psychologist.
